Packing tips to make that move to college easier
Advertiser Staff
Whether it's across town or across the country, it's time to start thinking about packing up the kids for another year of college.
Here are some packing tips from PostNet, a Denver, Colo.- based company, to help make the process an easy one:
Start with strong, sturdy boxes and take the time to reinforce the corners and seams of recycled boxes with strong packing tape. A good rule is to pack so that the contents can survive being dropped from one foot up.
Do not pack as much as possible into one big box. Large boxes get too heavy when overpacked, break when shipped and are awkward for one person to carry.
If school is across the country, shipping a student's possessions may be an option. Check with the dormitory for the exact shipping address and whether they accept large packages on behalf of students. Also, get deadlines for acceptance. Ground shipping will be the least expensive, but leave plenty of time for the packages to arrive.
Move-in day can get hectic and confusing. If using recycled boxes, remove or black out existing labels, and clearly mark your child's boxes.
Don't forget the kids after they are moved in. Sending a care package might be just the pick-me-up they need mid-semester.
