Woman killed crossing street identified

The city Medical Examiner's office has identified Ruby Furukawa, 85, as the pedestrian who was killed yesterday while walking across Wai'alae Avenue in Kaimuki.

According to police, Furukawa was crossing Wai'alae Avenue at 4th Avenue near the Kaimuki Shopping Center at about 10:30 a.m. when she was hit by a gold 2005 Toyota Camry traveling in the Koko Head direction.

Furukawa suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Queen's Medical Center where she died.

The driver of the vehicle, a 90-year-old woman, was not injured.

According to police, speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.



Police investigating robbery, sexual assault in Waikiki

Police are looking for a group of men who allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman in Waikiki at about 3:18 a.m. yesterday.

The victim told police she befriended the three suspects at a Waikiki game room and later walked with them to a liquor store when she was tackled by one of the suspects.

The suspects allegedly took money from her pockets and ordered the victim to take off her clothes and sexually assaulted her.

The victim reported seeing a gun tucked in the waistband of one of the suspects, according to police.



Police find drugs, stolen credit cards during traffic stop

A 27-year-old homeless woman was arrested at about 11:10 p.m. yesterday for allegedly driving a car without a license, fraudulent use of credit cards and possession of illegal drugs.

According to police, the woman was stopped for a traffic violation at the corner of S. Beretania St. and Kalakaua Ave. When asked for identification, she gave the officer a stolen temporary license. Police found stolen credit cards in her purse along with a packet of what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.



Three arrested after threatening homeless couple

One adult male and two juveniles were arrested at about 1 a.m. today in connection with the assault and terroristic threatening of a homeless couple in the downtown area.

According to police reports, a 54-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman who are homeless were at the corner of Queen Emma St. and N. Vineyard Boulevard when a 21-year-old Honolulu man and two boys, 15 and 16, threatened them. One of the suspects used a knife to threaten the homeless man, police said.



Woman arrested for using counterfeit cash

Police arrested a 54-year-old Palolo woman at about 3:18 p.m. yesterday for allegedly trying to spend counterfeit currency at Kalihi store.

According to police reports, the woman had two counterfeit $100 bills mixed in with six real $100 bills to pay for $800 of merchandise.
