TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Into the West" finale, 5 and 7 p.m., TNT. This six-part, 12-hour miniseries has been crafted brilliantly, but is deeply morose. Tonight, it concludes with people trying to re-establish human connections. The story began with idealistic adventurer Jacob Wheeler and, soon, his Lakota bride Thunder Heart Women. They are elderly now and learn that Jacob Jr. was killed by Indian boys because he scouted for Custer. Now they search for their daughter, Margaret Light Shines. After her husband, a photographer, was killed, she returned to a reservation and has been caring for orphan children. Meanwhile, Robert and Clara Wheeler, Jacob's kin, tried teaching at a Pennsylvania school for Indian children. Distressed that the school eradicated traditions, they've returned to the west. So has young Voices That Carry, who hated his schooling experience. Returning home, he finds a west that is consumed with rage after the Indians' victory at Little Big Horn. Tonight, large and angry forces converge, with more violence. There are also quieter family moments, as this lushly filmed epic concludes.

OF NOTE

"Stargate SG-1," 5 p.m., Sci-Fi Channel. Last week's season-opener deftly used two stars from the dandy, departed "Farscape" series. Ben Browder is the new "Stargate" hero, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell; Claudia Black, continuing a guest role from last season, is the self-centered treasure-hunter Vala Mal Doran. Last week, Vala used a stolen bracelet to bind herself with Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) — without learning how to unbind. Now they're in a distant galaxy, uncovering ancient books and drawing foul attention from the natives.

"Stargate Atlantis," 6 p.m., Sci-Fi Channel. This is just what we fear when our computers start glowing: A computer virus has killed two people and is growing.

"Barbershop" (2002), 7 p.m., Fox. This popular movie already has had a sequel, with a cable series coming next. A neighborhood barbershop becomes a central point for both comedy and drama. Ice Cube stars with Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer and more.

"Battlestar Galactica," 7 p.m., Sci-Fi Channel. More computer woes: The Cylons have used a computer virus to board Galactica. Meanwhile, Starbuck is stranded with Helo on her old planet. She breaks into her former apartment and starts her old pickup truck.

"Faith and Hope," 7:30 p.m., ABC. This rerun takes Faith (Kelly Ripa) to a soap opera award show. She was dumped by the show and hated by her colleagues, but now she has a daytime Emmy nomination. The episode has lots of real-life soap people playing themselves, including Eric Braeden, Susan Flannery and Ian Buchanan; it has many of Ripa's former "All My Children" colleagues, including Susan Lucci, Eva LaRue, Rebecca Budig and John Callahan.

"JAG," 8 p.m., CBS. Everyone seems to be tied into this military trial. Mac prosecutes, Harm defends and Coates is on the jury.

"Law & Order: Trial by Jury," 9 p.m., NBC. This wraps up a story that started on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Alfred Molina plays a rape defendant whose wealthy mother (Angela Lansbury) has been protecting him.

"Monk," 10 p.m., USA Network. With Monk hit by the flu, Natalie decides to solve a murder on her own.
