Kailua restaurateur Gregory Michael Blotsky, who owned Cisco's Cantina for two decades, died June 29 at his Waimanalo home after battling cancer for eight years. He was 57.

Blotsky and his life partner of 25 years, Martha Harding, opened Cisco's in 1983. They sold it on Jan. 1 this year because of concerns over Blotsky's health, Harding said.

A native of New York City, Blotsky moved to Hawai'i in 1969 while working for United Airlines. He had a passion for the culinary arts and business, Harding said. He was a backgammon grand master, displaying his love for the game with license plates on his car reading "MASTER."

"We had the most wonderful years together, and he never complained when he was ill," Harding said. "He had the strongest spirit."

They were named Small Business Hawai'i Persons of the Year in 2000.

In addition to Harding, Blotsky is survived by his parents, Bill and Antonia Blotsky; sister, Paula; and children, Karyn and William Blotsky.

Harding said services have not been scheduled, but there will be a celebration of Blotsky's life in September.
