Big Isle man charged in Volcano shooting

HILO, Hawai'i — Police have charged a Kea'au man with attempted murder in connection with a July 16 shooting in the Volcano subdivision of Mauna Loa Estates.

Kanikahekili K. Cuizon, 22, of was arrested about 8 p.m. Tuesday and was being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Police said they were called to the Mauna Loa Estates subdivision July 16 and found Calin Miller, 50, in his home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Miller was taken to the Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was listed in stable condition after surgery.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man, a 28-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, all of Pahoa, the day after the shooting. They were released without charges.

Cuizon has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, assault and firearms charges.
