Woman smacks officer with purse, arrested

A 24-year-old Hale'iwa woman was arrested in Kailua early yesterday morning after she allegedly hit a police officer with her purse, slightly injuring the officer. The officer was investigating a property-damage complaint at a North Kalaheo Avenue address when the alleged assault took place around 1:45 a.m.

The woman was arrested for suspicion of third-degree criminal property damage and first-degree assault of a police officer.

Credit-card thief caught in the act

A 24-year-old Waipahu woman was arrested by police at the Toys-R-Us store in Pearlridge yesterday as she allegedly was completing a transaction with a stolen credit card. She was arrested for a suspicion of multiple criminal offenses. The credit card was from a purse that was reported stolen earlier by a shopper at the Lowe's home improvement store in Waikele.

Police said a 51-year-old woman noticed her purse was missing about 3:30 p.m. and immediately called a credit card representative to report the card was lost. The Mastercard official told the woman the card was being used as they spoke at the Toys-R-Us store, and the card owner immediately called police.

Patrol officers from the Pearl City police district quickly arrived at the store and arrested the suspect as she was completing the transaction.

Police then checked on the car the suspect parked at the toy store and determined it had been reported stolen earlier.

The woman was then arrested for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card.
