Hawai'i junior golfers win titles

Honolulu's Bradley Shigezawa and Lorens Chan won division titles yesterday at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Shigezawa shot a final-round 3-under 69 for a 10-under 206 total and a six-stroke victory in the boys' 12-13 age division.

Chan closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 2-over 218 and a six-stroke victory in the boys' 10-11 age division.

In the girls' 10-11 division, Wailuku's Kyung Kim and Honolulu's Cyd Okino tied for fourth with 70—212, six strokes behind winner Victoria Tanco of Argentina.

The top Hawai'i finishers in the other divisions were: Jared Sawada (35th in boys' 14-15 with 73—232), Rae-lyn Morikawa (22nd in girls' 12-13 with 82—241), and Kelcie Ann Kawano (14th in girls' 14-15 with 76—235).

LINDSAY, BASCUK WIN

Leland Lindsay and John Bascuk teamed to shoot a 6-under 65 yesterday to clinch the 2005 Aloha Section PGA ProLink Pro Pro Championship at the Ka'anapali North Course.

Lindsay and Bascuk had a two-round total of 11-under 131 to win $3,000 in the 4-ball stroke-play event that featured 22 teams of Hawai'i professionals.

John Lynch and Matt Pakkala, who led after the first round with a 9-under 62, shot 70 to finish a stroke back.

The University of Hawai'i has launched an auction Web site that offers fans an opportunity to purchase authentic football jerseys worn by players during the 2004 season.

Starting bids for the jerseys are $75.

RainBowTique, the official UH merchandise store, will administer the site. Bidders will receive updates on the status of their bids and will be contacted via e-mail if they are the successful bidder.

"This auction site will allow us to provide high-quality, authentic products to the fans," said UH athletic director Herman Frazier. "Additionally, it will generate some new revenue for the department to help defray costs associated with the purchase of new team-related products."

OLIVE SUPPORTS YOUTH

Former University of Hawai'i All-American Jason Olive will hold his third annual Jayo Invitational Sept. 17 at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

The clinic and tournament support Olive's Jayo Foundation, created in 2002 to "create top quality sports facilities accessible to youth in underserved communities; raise financial support for worthy charitable causes which improve the lives of children in the areas of health and education; and encourage and empower children to seek higher education."

Players and kids can register for the tournament or clinic, and buy admission tickets at jayoinvitational.com.

Celebrities and athletes who have participated or will participate include Renee Russo, David Arquette, Dennis Rodman and gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Dain Blanton.
