Twenty-two athletes from Hawai'i were named to the West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for earning grade point averages of 3.00 or above for the 2004-05 school year.

Included are their schools, class levels for the upcoming year, sport, major and grade point averages:


GOLD HONORS (3.75 TO 4.00)

    FOOTBALL

  • Tennessee senior defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona (Kealakehe '01 of Kailua, Kona) was named to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference first team, as voted on by the league coaches.

    He was also voted the league's best defensive lineman by the 59th annual Birmingham News SEC Football Preview, as voted on by the league's 12 sports information directors.

    Mahelona was named a preseason All-American pick by Athlon, Blue Ribbon, College FootballNews.com, Lindy's, Nat ionalchamps.net, Playboy, Sporting News and Street & Smith's.


    MEN'S TENNIS

  • Former Boise State tennis player Ikaika Jobe (Punahou '01 of Wailupe) was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete for Division I Men.


    WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • Georgetown's Adriann Gin (Punahou '04 of Honolulu), who will be a sophomore, was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete for Division I Women.


    WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Recent Saint Mary's graduate Sarah Takekawa (Kailua '01), who tore her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in her left knee during what would have been her senior season last year, has decided to forgo her final season.

    She graduated with a degree in Health Science with plans to attend medical school, and is playing for the Lamorinda East Bay Power of the Women's Premier Soccer League.


    COMMITMENTS

  • Recent Roosevelt graduate Kristen Tanabe signed with Graceland University (Lamoni, Iowa), to play volleyball and softball in the 2005-06 year.

    Tanabe earned an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division first team nod in softball and second team honors in volleyball, and All-State honorable mention in both sports.
