Apparently Western Athletic Conferences football coaches and the reporters who cover them think alike.

The University of Hawai'i football team is picked to finish third in the WAC this season, according to the coaches' poll announced today at the league's football media preview in Reno. The Warriors also were predicted to place third in the media poll.

"I don't put much weight on that stuff," UH coach June Jones said.

A coach was not allowed to vote for his team. Jones said he gave his No. 1 vote "to either Fresno State or Boise State. I can't remember."

Boise State, the WAC's three-time defending champion, and Fresno State were tied for No. 1 with 60 points apiece. The number of first-place votes was not announced.

UH had 50 points.

1. Boise State 60
(tie) Fresno State 60
3. Hawai'i 50
4. Louisiana Tech 37
5. Nevada 35
6. San Jose State 28
7. New Mexico State 21
8. Utah State 20
9. Idaho 13
