You've got a good five months or so until winter swells start attacking the North Shore again. So why not spend part of it matching up your reminiscences of last year's monster waves with actual footage of 2004's Vans Triple Crown of Surfing contests? Just released this week, a 90-minute DVD of highlights features Sunny Garcia's quest for his fifth overall Triple Crown win, Andy Irons' conquest of the O'Neill World Cup and lots of behind-the-scenes views of the event. The package also includes a full-length CD of music from Epitaph Records acts, including Pennywise and theDropkick Murphys. From Epitaph, $14.98.

PLAYGROUND HAZARDS

PLAY IT SAFE WITH PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

More than 200,000 children land in emergency rooms every year with playground injuries. Parents magazine has exposed playground hazards and offered tips to keep your kids safe:

  • Look for swings with soft rubber seats. Stay away from wooden or metal ones, which can accidentally injure kids who are walking by.

  • Don't put a child in your lap while going down the slide. Her feet or legs could get caught between your body and the slide.

  • Don't let a child wear a hooded shirt or jacket; the drawstrings could get caught on equipment.

  • Don't let a child go barefoot.

  • Don't let a young child play on equipment meant for older kids, such as horizontal ladders. Equipment should be no higher than six feet for preschoolers and eight feet for school-age children.

    FINAL WORD

"I was a very selfish person. You go through periods of your life where the world does revolve around you, but you can't live your whole life that way."
