NORMAN INOUYE

JULY 24

KANE'OHE KLIPPER GOLF COURSE

HOLE NO. 6, 142 YARDS, 7-IRON

With his hole-in-one Sunday, Norman Inouye not only ended a 40-year wait but finally erased his name off a list of notable tournament players who have never had an ace.

"Take me off your list and tell them (Casey Nakama, Guy Yamamoto, Jay Hinazumi, Garret Omuro) that I finally made a hole-in-one," said Inouye, 59, who hit a 7-iron to ace the 142-yard sixth hole at the Klipper Golf Course at the Kane'ohe Marine Corps Base Headquarters.

"I'm off the list now," said a relieved Inouye, a local building contractor who played with his Kaala/RCA Golf Club. His foursome included Phil Anamizu, amateur team captain for the annual Governor's Cup.

Inouye, who plays to a 7-handicap, was mentioned in a 2003 golf column on noted golfers who never made a hole-in-one. Since then, Del-Marc Fujita and Bev Kim have also left the ranks.
