A week after the card that was to have brought Brian Viloria his first world championship fight was canceled, the Waipahu boxer got his dream shot back.

"This has been great news; really great," Viloria said yesterday afternoon following the announcement by manager Gary Gittelsohn that the World Boxing Council light-flyweight title fight is rescheduled for Sept. 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The unbeaten Viloria (17-0, 11 knockouts) was to have fought champion Eric Ortiz on Saturday in Las Vegas on the "Million Dollar Lady" card until Lucia Rijker suffered an injury in training forcing cancellation of the card.

Since then, Gittelsohn and promoter Bob Arum have been looking for another date. "Brian has been checking with me every day, crossing his fingers," Gittelsohn said. "Today I finally was able to give him the good news he has been waiting for."

Told after working out yesterday that the fight was back on, "I'll be ready for this one," Viloria vowed. "I've already been training for two months, so I'm ready."

Viloria will be the fourth member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic boxing team to fight for a world championship.

Ortiz, who has won 21 of his last 22 fights, won the vacant WBC title in March with a seventh-round technical knockout of Jose Antonio Aguirre.

The Top Rank Inc. card also matches superfeatherweights Erik Morales of Mexico against Zahir Rahim of Philadelphia and Manny Pacquiao of The Philippines versus Hector Velazquez of Mexico.

While HBO will show portions of the card, it wasn't immediately known if Viloria's bout will be part of the telecast.
