Honolulu's Michelle Wie rebounded with a 5-under-par 67 today in the second round of the Women's British Open in Southport, England.

The 15-year-old Punahou student, who shot 3-over 75 yesterday, had seven birdies and two bogeys today. She birdied three of the final four holes to vault from a tie for 29th place to a tie for eighth place.

Wie's overall two-round total (75-67) is 2-under 142. She still trails first-round leader Jeong Jang by eight shots. Jan shot a 6-under 66 and is 10-under 134.

Wie birdied the par-4 No. 2, par-3 No. 4, par-3 No. 7, par-4 No. 11, and Nos. 15, 17 and 18, which were all par-5s. She bogeyed the par-4 No. 5 and the par-3 No. 14.

Wie is tied with Annika Sorenstam (73-69). Rookie teen Paula Creamer, 18, who won last week's Evian Masters, shot 69 and is at even-par 144.

Jang, who has never won a pro tournament in six years on the LPGA Tour, birdied four holes in a row at one point and is four shots ahead of Swedish amateur Louise Stahle, who posted a 65, and five in front of Cristie Kerr, who carded a 66.

The weather improved considerably after the field of 150 was battered by strong winds and driving rain on Thursday. Thirty players had to complete their first round today and only eight of the entire field broke par.

Wie improved by eight strokes in dry, calmer conditions, collecting birdies at the three par 5s in the last four holes.

"Conditions were so much better," Wie said. "A lot less windy and really nice. It was a lovely day."
