Honolulu music store Easy Music Center is headed for new ownership and expansion as part of a sale to a partnership headed by the son of retired First Hawaiian Bank chief executive Walter Dods.

Peter Dods is leading a purchase of the 66-year-old business at 1108 Ke'eaumoku St. from local conglomerate Servco Pacific Inc.

The sale is expected to close in October for an undisclosed price.

Dods, who moved back to Hawai'i after earning a degree from the University of Pennsylvania and working as an investment analyst for Merrill Lynch in New York, plans to give Easy Music a new emphasis on computer-based recording equipment while continuing to focus on a wide range of musical instruments.

Most of the company's 11 employees will continue under the new ownership.

"We look forward to continuing Easy Music Center's long-standing tradition of excellence and also expanding into the exploding field of computer-generated musical equipment," Dods said.

Dods is buying the business with the help of his family, including his father, who is a director on Servco's board. Mark Fukunaga, Servco board chairman and CEO, said Walter Dods recused himself from any involvement in the sale.

Servco is primarily involved in automotive, insurance, real-estate, consumer goods and private equity investment businesses.
