Advertiser Staff

A 25-year-old O'ahu man and a 20-year-old woman who were sharing a Waikiki hotel room were arrested yesterday after police went to the hotel to check on a report that a stereo had been stolen from a car in the hotel parking lot.

Police were viewing a hotel surveillance videotape along with the car's owner when a third person identified a guest of the hotel as the one who stole the car stereo.

Police located and arrested the man, then got consent from the woman who had been sharing his hotel room to search that room.

Police reported finding drugs in plain view and arrested the woman on suspicion of third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree promotion of detrimental drugs.

The man was arrested on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Weapons violation alleged

Police who were checking on a report yesterday morning of a homeless person entering a vacant home on Puolani Street in Kalihi arrested the man found inside the residence.

After arresting a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of trespassing about 8:30 a.m., officers took the pair to the Kalihi police station.

There, police reported finding a handgun in a backpack they found near the man when he was arrested at the home on Puolani Street.

The man told police the backpack and gun were not his. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to properly store a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a prohibited firearm.
