Advertiser Staff

HAPPENING

Camile Velasco and Diana DeGarmo, No. 9 and No. 2 in the third season of "American Idol," perform at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow at the 50th State Fair, Aloha Stadium. It's an opportunity to catch up on how their voices have matured since their TV days.

The gig is free with fair admission ($3 from noon to 6 p.m. and $5 from 6 p.m. to closing for those 12 and older, $2 for children 4-11 and free for keiki 3 and under). Velasco (from Haiku, Maui) and DeGarmo (from Snellville, Ga.) are expected to share new music; the buzz is that Velasco also will give a Maui concert sometime in August.

ART

Cool it with a little culture

Forgive us for further mauling a Nelly lyric, but ... it's getting hot out there! So if you're the type who enjoys your visions of summer in air-conditioned comfort, check out the Hawai'i State Art Museum's special hot-season art show Summertime.

The exhibition, which starts today in time for the First Friday gallery walk, focuses on Hawai'i summer themes and images. Show up at 5 p.m. for short films and entertainment from Capoeira Hawai'i, Convergence Dance, Upside Down Dance, and Willow Chang. DJ Mr. Nick mixes it all up. Free. Information: 586-0305.
