Spencer Hafoka

Great football players and great athletes abound at Kahuku High School, but even among that wealth of talent, Spencer Hafoka stood out.

As a sophomore, he became starting quarterback for the defending state champions even though it wasn't his natural position. After moving to wide receiver, he earned first-team All-State honors his junior and senior seasons.

Hafoka compiled very impressive statistics, but they did measure his total value to the team. His ability to make gravity-defying catches and turn short passes into long touchdowns changed the way opponents planned their strategy.

When football season was over, Hafoka had a similar impact on Kahuku's track and field team. As a junior, he took first place in three events at the O'ahu Interscholastic Association championship meet and helped the Red Raiders win their first OIA team title.

This season, Hafoka won the 110 hurdles at the OIA championships and helped Kahuku win the 4X100 and 4X400 titles, setting a meet record in the 4X100.

But Hafoka's contributions to Kahuku and the North Shore are not limited to athletics. He is an Eagle Scout, was events chair for the student government and carried a 3.1 cumulative grade-point average, setting a fine example for other student-athletes.

Hafoka has accepted a scholarship offer to play football for Brigham Young University, but first he will serve a two-year church mission.
