Brashton Satele

Three years ago, Word of Life Academy was the new kid on the block in Hawai'i high school athletics. Not many people had heard of the school, let alone know where it is located (in Kaka'ako).

That is changing slowly but surely, and senior Brashton Satele had a lot to with it. Playing football for Pac-Five, Satele was a second-team Advertiser All-State linebacker, and in track and field he won the state discus championship and came within 17 inches of the meet record with a mark of 184 feet, 7 inches.

At the prestigious Stanford Invitational in March, Satele drew national attention with a discus throw of 190 feet, 3 inches, beating out one of the top throwers in California.

Satele also played basketball for Word of Life, twice earning first-team all-star honors in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Division II.

Outside of athletics, Satele carried a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and participated with his senior class in outreach projects like feeding the homeless, visiting senior citizen homes and park clean-ups.

Satele has accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Hawai'i
