POLICE BEAT
Pawa'a home gutted in early-morning blaze

Advertiser Staff

A fire early this morning gutted the interior of Pawa'a home that was being renovated.

No one was injured and the house was vacant at the time of the fire.

Eight fire units responded to the 3 a.m. blaze at 1684 Kalakaua Ave.

Fire officials said the same home was damaged by a fire about three months ago, one that officials determined had been set deliberately.

Investigators were at the scene of the latest fire today, trying to determine how it started.

The initial estimate of damage to the home was set at approximately $180,000.

Hatchet used in argument, police said

A Mililani Mauka man has been charged with three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening following an altercation Saturday morning with his girlfriend and her sister at a home on Makaikai Street.

Police said Ryan S. Mullen, 25, was arguing with his girlfriend about 2:50 a.m. and punched her. At that point, the girlfriend's sister stepped in and told him to stop, but Mullen then punched her as well and threatened her with a hatchet, police said. He later used the hatchet to hack two holes in the bedroom door of the girlfriend's house, police said.

Officers arrived at the home and arrested Mullen, whose bail has been set at $25,000.
