JEFFREY N. WATANABE, a local attorney, and LAWRENCE M. JOHNSON, past chief executive officer of Bank of Hawaii, have been elected to the board of directors of Trex Enterprises Corp. Watanabe, principal with Watanabe Ing Kawashima Komeiji LLP has served as director of the Loea board since 2002. Trex is a high-tech incubator, research and development company working for sophisticated state-of-the-art commercial and government solutions, ranging from high-speed communications to novel airport security systems. It is based in San Diego, with offices in Honolulu, Maui, Kaua'i, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and New Mexico.

Chef JAMES GILLESPIE has been named executive chef at Ko'olau Catering Partners. Gillespie, most recently executive chef for Sunset Grill in Restaurant Row, is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Ko'olau Catering Partners is a full-service banquet facility at the Ko'olau Golf Club and golf course in Windward O'ahu.

• AARON FUKUDA, who began at Sam Choy's Diamond Head eatery as a line cook while attending classes at Kapi'olani Community College, has been named the restaurant's executive chef. Fukuda most recently was the restaurant's sous chef.

BARBARA HECKATHORN and CINDY McMILLAN have been named vice presidents of Communications Pacific. Heckworth, head of corporate communications, joined CommPac in 2003. McMillan, who heads the company's community-building practice, joined the firm in 2002. CommPac also announced the promotions of JENNIFER BOWERS to director; CYNDEE HATA to production manager at CP Advertising; and HENRY KUO to creative director of the company's CP Interactive Division.

• JOHN TAPPER has been named e-commerce general manager at Hilo Hattie, charged with overseeing day-to-day Internet operations and growth. Tapper will focus on growth in both the domestic and international markets with an emphasis on Japan.

• The Hawai'i Chapter of the American Liver Foundation has named JANICE M. NILLIAS as executive director. Nillias, whose career in the local nonprofit industry has included management and fundraising with The Nature Conservancy of Hawai'i; American Red Cross, Hawai'i state chapter; and Goodwill Industries of Hawai'i, will promote awareness of liver wellness and disease, including educational and outreach programs in her new position.
