ON STAGE
Theatre for Youth finds home at Tenney

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

The days of being a roving gypsy troupe are over for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth as of this fall's 51st season. And, for the first time, a Friday opening-night gala (with two Saturday launches) will precede the usual weekend matinee public performances, putting a nighttime spin to HTY's normal matinee schedule.

Actor BullDog returns as a rapping Iago in the Honolulu Theatre for Youth's adaptation of "Othello," beginning Feb. 24.

It's all part of a deal that will give the group a home base — Tenney Theatre at St. Andrew's Cathedral — for five years. Thus, the entire slate of 2005-2006 productions will be mounted, unlike the multivenue agenda of seasons past, at one location.

"We're thrilled to be in residence at the beautiful Tenney Theatre," said managing director Louise King Lanzilotti. "Not only do St. Andrew's Cathedral and HTY share a mission — to serve Hawai'i's children and families — but the move to a single, easily-accessible venue will help the public better identify with HTY and our offerings."

Past productions were mounted wherever a site was available. HTY had been bouncing from McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Park to Richardson Theatre at Fort Shafter, from Leeward Community College Theatre to Tenney Theatre.

This season marks the debut of two behind-the-scenes players:
