ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Let the clutter cleanup begin!

Advertiser Staff

A junk drawer is a fitting metaphor for a complicated life, say Connie Cox and Cris Evatt, authors of "30 Days to a Simpler Life."

"Today, dejunk one drawer," Cox and Evatt say.

They suggest sorting through the madness — the jumbled assemblage of screws, coupons, warranties, dead

batteries and mysterious keys — keeping only what's loved and used, then recycling or tossing the rest.

"These simple steps will help you simplify and organize every area of your life," they say.

Be respectful of nature

If your summer break calls for camping or hiking, consider these eco-friendly tips from www.earthshare.org:

• Heavy, lug-soled boots can destroy fragile terrain, so wear light boots or well-cushioned running shoes whenever conditions permit.

• Use established trails. Cutting switchbacks tramples vegetation and leads to soil erosion.

• Don't litter.

• Put nature first. Take only pictures and leave only footprints.

Help is here to rid chaos

In the midst of the day-to-day chaos we call life, it's easy to forget about the things that should really matter to us: taking time to nurture ourselves, our families, our homes and our environment.

Every Monday, look here in Island Life for a weekly feature that offers quick tips, fun facts and useful resources to help make life less complicated and the planet greener.
