POLICE BEAT
Bogus bill reported

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 47-year-old man yesterday after he allegedly tried to use a counterfeit $50 bill to purchase several items from a store in Honolulu.

The store clerk, a 55-year-old woman, used a counterfeit detection pen on the bill and determined it was a fake.

When informed the $50 bill was bogus, the customer told the clerk he would go to an automatic teller machine and return with money to pay for the goods.

When the customer returned as promised, police were waiting and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree forgery.

While the forgery suspect was being booked, police determined that a warrant had been issued for his arrest on the Mainland. Police released no details on that warrant.
