Advertiser Staff

HAPPENING

"Today" news anchor Ann Curry is one. Island entertainer Cathy Foy is another. Someone hapa, that is.

How do you define being a person of mixed ethnicities in Hawai'i? Community representatives will lead a Being Hapa talk-story session about the Japanese American hapa experience in a multicultural society. The free event takes place 5:30 to 7 tonight at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the open discussion.

BOX OFFICE

'Madagascar' stars

Despite seeing its gross rise to more than $300 million in the United States and Canada, "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" fell to third place over the weekend behind "Madagascar" and "The Longest Yard," according to Exhibitor Relations.

"Madagascar" claimed the top spot with $28.7 million, and "The Longest Yard" took in $26.1 million. "Sith" was in a photo finish for second, doing $26 million. Ron Howard's "Cinderella Man" debuted at No. 4 with $18.6 million, below industry expectations.

FINAL WORD

"Directing Russell is like shooting on a tropical island. The weather is going to change several times a day, but you're shooting there for a reason. Sometimes those dark clouds are just what you need. And sometimes you wish it would stop raining so you can do the sunny scene."

Ron Howard | in the Sydney Herald Sun, on directing his "Cinderella Man" star Russell Crowe.
