Wie shoots first-round 69, tied for 8th

Michelle Wie shot a 3-under-ar 69 and is tied for eighth place after the opening round McDonald's LPGA Championship.

The 15-year-old Punahou student had five birdies and two bogeys in her round at the 6,486-yard Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md.

Natalie Gulbis, Laura Diaz and Laura Davies each fired 5-under 67 to share the lead.

Annika Sorenstam, Sung Ah Yim and Paula Creamer are a shot back at 68.

Wie opened the day with a bogey on the par-4 first hole, but followed that with a birdie on the par-5 second hole.

She had a bogey on the par-3 seventh and a birdie on the par-5 eighth for a front-nine score of 36.

She had birdies on the par-4 10th, par-5 15th and par-4 16th for a back-nine score of 33.

Wie is tied with Angela Stanford and Mi Hyun Kim.
