Road rage ends with punch

Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old Kalihi man was arrested last night following a road-rage incident that began on the H-1 Freeway in Kalihi.

Police said the Kalihi man and a 16-year-old boy were traveling in a sport utility vehicle about 10:20 p.m. when they got into a confrontation with a 40-year-old Wai'anae man who was driving a pickup truck.

The driver of the SUV got off the freeway when the motorist in the pickup truck did and followed him to the corner of Nimitz Highway and Kalihi Street.

The SUV's driver and his passenger got out of their vehicle and approached the other driver who was sitting in his truck.

The man who had been driving the SUV then reached through an open window and punched the other driver, police said.

A police officer noticed the commotion and arrested the assailant for suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Domestic abuse alleged

A 24-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife on Monday.

Police said the man and his wife, 23, are married but have separate residences.

The two agreed to meet at the woman's home on Monday but got into an argument. The wife told police the husband punched her in the face and left, and that she went to the hospital afterward and was treated for a broken jaw.

The wife told police she spotted her husband in front of her home yesterday and went to the Wahiawa police station to file a report.

Police found the husband across from the wife's home and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault.
