Advertiser Staff

Honolulu teenage golf sensation Michelle Wie shot a final-round 3-under-par 69 today to finish second in the McDonald's LPGA Championship in Havre De Grace, Md.

Wie, 15, the first amateur to be invited to play in the tournament, finished three shots behind Annika Sorenstam, who won the tournament for the third time in a row.

In winning her second consecutive women's major golf tournament -- she won the Kraft Nabisco in March -- Sorenstam shot a 1-over 73 today for a total of 277, 11-under-par overall. Wie, a Punahou School student, finished 8-under-par overall at 280 on the 6,448-yard Bulle Rock Golf Course.

As an amateur, Wie will not be able to collect the second-place prize of about $164,000.

Laura Davies and Paula Creamer were tied for third at 6-under overall.

Wie had a bogey on the par-5 second hole. She birdied the eighth, 10th, 11th and 15th holes.
