POLICE BEAT
Man arrested in homicide

Advertiser Staff

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Pearl City yesterday in connection with the death of a 60-year-old man who was found in Kamehameha Heights early Saturday morning with head injuries.

A city emergency medical services ambulance crew picked the man up about 3:20 a.m. and took him to a hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Police initially classified the death as an unattended death pending the results of an autopsy. The autopsy showed the man died of assaultive, blunt-force injuries to the head and that manual strangulation may also have contributed to his death.

The city Department of the Medical Examiner ruled that the death was a homicide and police yesterday arrested the suspect at a Hooli Circle address in Pearl City on suspicion of second-degree murder. The suspect, who police described as an acquaintance of the victim, had not been charged as of this morning.

Assault report investigated

Police are investigating a report filed by an 18-year-old Wai'anae woman who said she was sexually assaulted Sunday by a man in his 30s or 40s at a house in Wai'anae.

The woman said a friend drove her to the suspect's house where she was taking a shower about 9 p.m. when the man entered the bathroom and sexually assaulted her.

Man accused of striking officer

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer following a scuffle at a store on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki last night.

The police officer had gone to the store about 7:30 p.m. in response to a trespassing complaint.

Police said that as the officer approached, the trespassing suspect became disorderly and struck the officer several times in the face before being subdued and arrested.

Tip leads police to arrest

A 19-year-old man was arrested yesterday at a Kauamea Place home in Mililani on suspicion of firearms and drug charges.

Police received a tip that the man, for whom arrest warrants had been issued in an unrelated case, was at the home and went there about 11:35 a.m.

The officers said that when they arrived at the home, they found the man with a loaded handgun and a crystal methamphetamine pipe.

He was arrested for suspicion of failing to properly store a gun and possession of drug paraphernalia.
