ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Tell Dad he's 'da Big Kim Chee'

Advertiser Staff

FATHER'S DAY

Cane Haul Road artist Grant Kagimoto's latest creation says "da Big KIM CHEE" and features a huge head of cabbage with glasses. Contributing to the pun is the packaging: The T-shirt comes stuffed into a half gallon Halm's Kim Chee jar. Don't worry — da jar nevah had da kine in it, so no stink. It's sold at Wabi-Sabi in Kaimuki for $19.95. It's also sold at Mango Season in Mo'ili'ili.

BOX OFFICE

Explosive 'Smith' earns $51M

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith's" marital strife and rumored romance made a killing at the box office for its opening weekend, earning about $51.1 million, according to estimates by Exhibitor Relations.

The DreamWorks animated "Madagascar" fell to second place with $17.1 million, ahead of "Star Wars: Episode III's" $14.9 million. "The Longest Yard" brought in $13.5 million. "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D" debuted at No. 5 with $12.5 million, while "Cinderella Man" continued to disappoint by dropping 48 percent to sixth place with a mere $9.5 million.

FINAL WORD

"Being a dad is the greatest job in the world — and the most terrifying. You're never sure whether you're doing a great job or a lousy job, and the only thing you are sure of is that it's the most important job you've got."

— Peter Gallagher | Actor, in In Style magazine
