Tonight's Must-See

Tonight on KHNL News 8

Tonight at 5, help find a new home for our new friends. It's a segment we call "Lend a Paw," where you can adopt our animal friends from the Hawaii Dog Foundation. We have your latest news, sports and weather tonight on KHNL News 8.

"Reno 911" season opener, 7, 7:30, 9 and 9:30 p.m., Comedy Central. In its first two years this show has had wonderfully droll humor. At the sheriff's department in Reno, Nev., we've met fictional deputies. All are incompetent and self-centered, none more so than Lt. Jim Dangle (Thomas Lennon). In mock-documentary style we've seen them on cases, chatting at the station or talking to the camera. It's sort of like "The Office," only funnier The season premiere brings a clever detour. A corrupt district attorney has framed all the deputies; cameras follow their lives in jail. The scenes range from exercising to arguing over whether white folks can sing jail songs. Also, one deputy has started reading his first novel. (The novel is Stephen King's "Christine," and he sort of likes it.) Sometimes daft, sometimes dry, "Reno 911" continues to be a real summer pleasure.

Of Note

"Inside the Mafia," 3 and 7 p.m., National Geographic Channel. Here's the second half of a richly detailed documentary viewing the history of the Mafia through the eyes of people who lived in it. "Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta narrates.

"Britney & Kevin: Chaotic," 4 p.m., UPN. This short-lived reality show concludes with the wedding of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. We kind of thought that would happen.

"Fear Factor," 7 p.m., NBC. This reruns the episode that pits reality stars against one another. Among them are Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca, who had won big money on "Survivor," Reichen Lehmkuhl from "Amazing Race" and Ryan Sutter from "Bachelorette." Also included are Nikki McKibbin and Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth from "American Idol" and "Apprentice," respectively. Now they all collide.

"The Shield," 7 p.m., FX. This terrific show wraps up its season with Vic's boss (Glenn Close) risking her career. She continues to seize property, despite orders to stop; she also tells Vic to take strong action to keep crime leader Antwon (Anthony Anderson) behind bars. Close is leaving the series, so watch out for some surprising changes.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. There's an epidemic among babies at the hospital.
