Creative ways to get your children to drink milk

Tips from Family Fun magazine — keeping in mind low-fat milk is best for you.

Make it fun. Let your kids slurp up milk with crazy straws.

Flavor it. Let chocolate, maple or fruit-flavored syrups sweeten the deal. Or try Ovaltine, which adds a host of vitamins and minerals.

Serve it when they're hungry. Put milk out when kids are waiting for their dinner.

Sneak it in. Add milk to smoothies, soups and oatmeal. Make instant hot chocolate with milk instead of water. Pour a little extra on cereal and let them slurp it up.

Opt for alternatives. Don't forget other calcium-rich foods such as spinach, yogurt, cheese, almonds and baked beans.

FINAL WORD

"The coolest thing about being a dad? Getting the chance to be a kid yourself — doing 'kid stuff' again without people looking at you funny."
