Kona parade deadline near

KAILUA, Kona, Hawai'i — June 27 is the deadline for entries in the 10th annual Kailua-Kona Independence Day Parade on July 4.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at Kona Kekuaokalani Gym and proceed down Kuakini Highway and Palani Road to Ali'i Drive, finishing at Coconut Grove Marketplace.

An awards ceremony will follow, with a fireworks display at 8 p.m.

Grand marshals for the event are Alfredo Tobias of Keauhou Mauka, a World War II and Korean War veteran, and U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka.

The Council of Kona Area Service Clubs invites entries from businesses, nonprofit and political groups, schools, churches and others. For more information, call Renee Kraft at (808) 345-2108.
