Woman hurt in purse-snatching

A 22-year-old woman told police she was robbed last night by two men as she was walking home from a grocery store in Makiki.

The woman told investigators two strangers approached her about 8 p.m. and tried to take her purse. One man hit her on the head several times with a wrench but she refused to let go of the bag, she said.

The would-be robbers then fled.

Police said the woman suffered head and face injuries but refused medical treatment.



Assault alleged in property dispute

A Makaha man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly forced his way into the home of a boy whom he believed had stolen several items from him.

Police said the man assaulted the boy about 1 p.m. before taking back his property, causing injuries to the boy's ribs and face.

Police were contacted and the man involved in the scuffle with the boy was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary.



Pedestrian struck crossing Vineyard Boulevard

A 52-year-old homeless man was critically injured this morning when he was struck by a car while trying to cross Vineyard Boulevard near A'ala Street.

Traffic investigators said the man was going from the mauka to the makai side of Vineyard outside a crosswalk and against the red light about 2:25 a.m. when he was struck by a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am traveling 'ewa-bound on Vineyard.

The pedestrian was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with a head wound and was listed in critical condition.

The motorist, a 25-year-old Pearl Harbor man, and his 22-year-old passenger, were not injured.
