Advertiser staff

Hawaii continues to enjoy the distinction of being one of the states with the fewest number of claims filed by residents for unemployment benefits.

The latest U.S. Labor Department figures show that Hawai'i residents filed just 1,000 first-time claims for unemployment benefits in the week ending June 4, down 200 from a year earlier. Claims filed by Hawai'i residents accounted for 0.3 percent of the national total. The only states with fewer claims filed were Maine, Delaware, Vermont, the Dakotas and Wyoming.

Hawai'i's unemployment rate of 2.9 percent in April was the lowest in the nation.
