Drivers may renew licenses in Hawai'i Kai

Advertiser Staff

East Honolulu residents and others may now renew their driver's licenses at the Hawai'i Kai Satellite City Hall, the city announced yesterday.

It is the third satellite city hall to offer this service. The others are at Fort Street Mall and Windward Mall.

The Hawai'i Kai Satellite City Hall is in Suite 101 of the Hawai'i Kai Corporate Plaza, 6600 Kalaniana'ole Highway. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

"We are pleased to be able to offer this additional service and convenience," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said.

The Fort Street Mall Satellite City Hall has issued 20,398 license renewals and duplicates in the fiscal year that began July 1, 2004, and the Windward Mall facility has issued 24,568. Both figures are three- to fourfold increases over the previous year.

"One reason for the increase in the public's growing interest in identity theft and people's desire to turn in their old licenses, which carry their Social Security numbers," Hannemann said. "In addition, the closure of the Kane'ohe driver licensing facility led more people to use the satellite city halls."

Driver's license renewals and duplicates, as well as road tests, can be obtained at City Square in Kapalama, Kapolei Hale, Pearl City, Wahiawa and Wai'anae.

To schedule a driver's license road test online, go to www.co.honolulu.hi.us/menu/government and click on "Drivers License Road Test Appointment Schedule" in the "Highlights" box on the left side of the Web page.
