Author to talk about thriving

Alan Cohen, best-selling author and inspirational speaker, will give a seminar on "The License to Thrive" at 2 p.m. June 26 at Unity Church of Diamond Head.

Cohen, author of the inspirational books "The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and "Why Your Life Sucks and What You Can Do About It," also writes a syndicated magazine column, "From the Heart."

The cost of the seminar is $35.

Cohen also will speak at the 9 and 11 a.m. June 26 services at Unity Church.

Thai Buddhist festival planned

Wat Buddhajakramongkolvararam, the Thai Buddhist Temple of Pearl City, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a free daylong festival June 26 at Kapi'olani Park's bandstand, with cultural events, religious ceremonies, kickboxing demonstrations and music.

The day begins with Buddhist ceremonies at 9 a.m. and a grand opening at 10 a.m..

There will be cultural events throughout the day It's also a chance to sample Thai food and watch Thai folk dancing.

Singles invited to conference

First Presbyterian Church is holding its second annual Singles Conference, "Jesus Was Single (and So Are We!)," July 22 to 23.

Topics include forgiveness, dating with a purpose, divorce recovery and single parenting. Speakers include Paul Sheppard of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship of California.

The cost for the two-day conference is $25 before June 30 ($35 thereafter).

Spiritual group down to earth

A new group, the Interfaith Environmental Action Coalition, will hold its inaugural meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Chaminade University's Henry Hall 206 Conference Room.

Group members seek to activate the faith and spiritual traditions in Hawai'i to "become a force for restoring, preserving and nurturing the earth," said Laura Crites, one of the group's founders.

The first meeting will be hosted by the Mission Team for Peace, Justice and Stewardship of Creation of the Church of the Crossroads.
