A female University of Hawai'i-Manoa student was accosted by a man in a car Thursday morning near the campus, prompting school officials to issue an alert for faculty and students to be vigilant.
Honolulu police said the summer-session student parked her car on Kamehameha Avenue near College Hill at about 8:50 a.m. and was walking to campus when a man in an idling car asked her a question from a distance.
When the woman approached the car, the man, who was not wearing pants, tried to grab the woman's hand. She fought her way free and the man drove away, police said.
The woman reported the incident to police. University officials were notified.
Safety has been a concern since two rapes in March near the Manoa campus, one of which involved a Kapi'olani Community College student.
