Three top guest posers at Hawaiian Islands show

Advertiser Staff

The 27th Hawaiian Islands Bodybuilding Championships will be held July 2 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall and feature three world-class bodybuilders.

Chris Cook, Gunter Schlierkamp and Troy Alves will participate in a "pose down" competition and be available for autographs, while the main events run from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Jr. Hawaiian Islands Championship, the Over-35 Masters' Championship, and the Women's Hawai'i Figure Contest will join the primary men's competition. Both the primary division and the women's figure contest will send someone to national qualifying.

Cook was the super heavyweight and overall champion at last year's NPC National Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships, and the 2004 Mr. USA super heavyweight champion.

The 5-foot-11, 250-pound Cook credits a strict nutrition schedule, in addition to rigorous workouts, for maintaining quality muscle mass. He says he eats at least seven meals a day. He'll eat eight or nine a day when training for a competition.

Alves was the 2002 Mr. USA heavyweight winner.

Schlierkamp took the 1990 Jr. World Championship, and won the heavyweight title in the Mr. Universe competition in 1993.

Ticket prices range from $21 to $41, and are on sale at the Blaisdell box office, Ticket Master outlets, via phone at (877) 750-4400 or at the Web site www.ticketmaster.com.
