Advertiser Staff

Police have opened an attempted murder case against a 29-year-old Kaimuki man after his girlfriend told police he deliberately ran over her twice with a car Saturday night.

The woman told police she was arguing with her boyfriend in his car about 10 p.m. when she got out and laid down behind the car to try to keep him from leaving.

The woman said her boyfriend reversed the car, running over her legs, and then put it in drive, running over her legs a second time.

The man left before an ambulance and police officers arrived, but was located yesterday and arrested for suspicion of attempted second-degree murder. Police did not indicate if or to what extent the woman was injured.

Police said a witness saw what was happening and called the company owner about 11:55 p.m. The owner told police he arrived at his shop near the corner of Koa and Uluniu avenues to find the man using a bolt cutter on the lock and cable that keep the individual surfboards from being stolen.

The owner was able to detain the suspect until police arrived to arrest the man for suspicion of attempted second-degree theft.

When he could not find the employee he was looking for, the man went up to the restaurant's cash register and forcibly took money from it, police said.

He ran out of the restaurant but was found later and arrested by Kane'ohe police officers.
