HILO, Hawai'i — Two inmates escaped last night from the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center by breaking a window, climbing on the roof and leaping over a perimeter fence, prison officials said.

The escape by Kyle Keola Quilausing, 31, and Ludy L. Lazo, 35, was reported at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday. They allegedly tied bedsheets together to fashion a rope that they used to climb up to the window, officials said.

Quilausing is charged with 14 counts of auto theft for allegedly driving off with cars after the owners left the keys inside. He is 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighs about 145 pounds, and has short black hair and brown eyes.

Lazo, who is charged with drug offenses, is 5-feet, 7-inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Both men were last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark shorts or pants.
