Tonight's Must-See

The Inside," 8 p.m., Fox. After a disappointing second episode, this show rebounds with one that's smart and involving. Except for some too-gory moments early, it's a terrific hour. Someone is killing people who might soon be serial killers. He has the skills of a criminal profiler — but doesn't wait for the crimes to be committed. The FBI people dub him a "prefiler." They must figure out how to catch him — and whether they want to. Virgil Webster (Peter Coyote) is intense, as usual. Rebecca Locke (Rachel Nichols) wobbles. As a former victim she might admire the guy's results, if not his ethics. It's a strong hour of complex plans and mixed emotions.

Of Note

"30 Days," 7 p.m., FX. The second documentary in this series follows a former high school athlete, now 35 and sagging, who turns to doctors and drugs for a get-fit-quick scheme. The result packs some cautionary impact.

"Psychic Detectives," 7 p.m., NBC. Here are two real-life missing-persons stories. In one, a psychic must help a woman find her teen daughter's body and get a confession from the killer; in the other, a psychic insists that a missing man is still in his car.

"Law & Order," 8 p.m., NBC. As in tonight's "The Inside," this involves the murder of a nasty person. Shortly after leaving prison, a child-killer is slain; police reluctantly look for the killer.

"King of Queens," 8 p.m., CBS. When his mom falls for Arthur, Doug can see a worst-case situation — his father-in-law becoming his stepfather.

"American Masters: Quincy Jones: In the Pocket," 9 p.m., PBS. Young band leader Quincy Jones once found himself in Europe with great musicians and no money to get them home. It was a lesson about the business side — something he learned brilliantly. Jones went on to produce pop hits for Leslie Gore and (at his peak) Michael Jackson. He's produced TV's "Fresh Prince," the movie "The Color Purple" and the fund-raiser We Are the World. It's a fascinating story, told in rich detail.

"What Not to Wear/While You Were Out," 9 p.m., TLC. In a clever twist, this cable channel combines two ideas. Simultaneously, a woman and her house are getting makeovers.

"Lost," 9 p.m., ABC. One of this show's most fascinating characters is the intense John Locke, played by Terry O'Quinn. Here's a rerun of the hour viewing his past.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. When a rich man is killed, police suspect his young widow or her hunky boyfriend.
