Eldredge makes U.S. Elite softball squad

Former California-Berkeley center fielder Kaleo Eldredge was named to the U.S. Elite team roster, USA Softball announced Monday.

The 16-member squad will compete in the Canada Cup at Surrey, B.C., starting July 2, and the Inter-Continental Cup at Madrid, Spain, July 20 to 28.

Eldredge, a 2001 Baldwin graduate, finished her college career this past season, batting .305 with 42 runs, six home runs, 39 RBIs and 11 steals.

Eldredge recently was named to the Easton All-America First Team. Brigham Young junior first baseman Ianeta Le'i (Iolani '02) was named to the second team and University of Hawai'i junior outfielder Tara Harbert was named to the third team.



More Softball

• Three players from Hawai'i were named Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. They were Azusa Pacific junior Rachel Yoshizu (Hawai'i Baptist) in Applied Health, and Notre Dame de Namur seniors Skylar Tokumine (University High '01) in art, and Erika Miyahara (Punahou '01) in biology.

• Cornell's Travis Lee (Saint Louis '01), who won two national titles, was named the school's Charles H. Moore Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year.

The award is presented annually to the senior who has distinguished himself within the team, league and nation, and is based on his entire career.

Lee earned Ivy League Wrestler of the Year honors twice, and became the first Ivy League wrestler to earn All-America honors four times. He is Cornell's and the Ivy League's career leader in wins with 143.

He won the national title in 2003 at 125 pounds, and captured this year's title at 133 pounds.



Baseball

• Creighton freshman second baseman Michael Lam (Punahou from Honolulu) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll.



Cross Country

• Creighton freshman Kari Tanimoto (Pearl City '04) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll.



Women's Swimming

San Diego junior Ashley Swart (Kaiser '02 of Hawai'i Kai) was named to the All-WAC Academic Team, with her school listed under the 2004-05 Affiliate Membership. She earned a 3.75 GPA in diversified liberal arts.



Women's Tennis

• Rice senior Tracie Chong (Iolani '01 of Hawai'i Kai) was named to the Western Athletic Conference Spring All-Academic Team. She earned a 3.53 GPA in psychology.

• Creighton freshman Jodi Yanagida (Punahou) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll.



Women's Track

• California-Berkeley sophomore Pippa Macdonald (Punahou '03 of Kailua) was named to the Pac-10 Conference Academic team as an honorable mention selection.
