Top seed in match play final

Top-seeded Cyd Okino, an 11-year-old from Honolulu, will play third-seeded Shelcie Takenouchi, an 18-year-old from Kaua'i, in today's final of the Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association Match Play Championship at Oahu Country Club.

The final is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.

Okino beat Hee Sue Condry, 4 and 2, in the quarterfinals and fourth-seeded Kayla Morinaga, 1-up, in the semifinals yesterday.

Takenouchi ousted Sanae Vierra, 1-up, in the quarterfinals and second-seeded Bobbie Kokx, 1-up, in the semifinals.

In the other quarterfinal matches, Kokx beat Tiffany Ishihara-Paraso, 9 and 7, and Morinaga eliminated Kuulei Kaae, 4 and 3.



TRACK AND FIELD

Satele, Ho honored

Brashton Satele and Lauren Ho were named the Gatorade Hawai'i State Track and Field Athletes of the Year.

Satele, a 2005 Word of Life graduate, recorded a personal best of 190 feet, 3 inches in the discus at the prestigious Stanford Invitational in March. He also came within 17 inches of the Hawai'i state meet record, with a toss of 184-7.

Ho, who will be a senior at Hawai'i Baptist in the fall, won the 800 (2:16.54), 1,500 (4:44.93) and 3,000 (10:35.67) at the state meet.

Both are finalists for National Track and Field Athlete of the Year awards to be announced in the following weeks.



SWIMMING

Roughwater clinic set

A free 90-minute clinic to prepare for the Waikiki Roughwater Swim is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Sunday at San Souci.

The 36th Waikiki Roughwater Swim is Sept. 4.
