Wie at 1 under par; storms suspend play

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Hawai'i's Michelle Wie was 1 under par after 15 holes when play was suspended by storms today at the U.S. Women's Open Championship at Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Angela Stanford and amateur Britney Lang were the clubhouse leaders at 2-under 69 at the Cherry Hills Country Club. Karine Icher also is at 2-under through 14 holes. Forty-eight golfers were on the course when play was suspended.

Annika Sorenstam, Meg Mallon, Sophie Gustafson and Morgan Pressel completed their rounds at 72.

Wie, the 15-year-old Punahou student who was second behind Sorenstam at the LPGA Championship, again put herself near the top of the leaderboard with back-to-back birdies on the back nine, starting with a 20-footer on the par-3 12th.

Four other golfers who finished their rounds also were at 1 under with Wie.
