Honolulu gas price hits record $2.457

The average price for regular gasoline in Honolulu rose to a record $2.457 a gallon, according to today's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

In Hilo on the Big Island, it averaged $2.584 a gallon, which was down from a record $2.631 set yesterday. Statewide the average was $2.547 a gallon. In Wailuku, Maui, regular gas averaged $2.794 a gallon.

The recent spikes come as crude oil futures are flirting with prices of $60 a barrel.



Hawai'i unemployment claims drop to 900 in June 11 week

In another sign of Hawai'i's strong job market, the number of claims for unemployment compensation filed by Island residents fell to 900 in the week ending June 11, down from 1,100 in the same period a year earlier. Only five states had fewer claims filed: New Hampshire, Vermont, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Hawai'i's unemployment rate of 2.7 percent is the lowest in the nation.
