Cadman can continue to inspire med school
It is with sadness that the community greets the news that Ed Cadman, the energetic dean of the UH School of Medicine, has resigned his position to deal with a neuro-degenerative disorder.
The good news is that Cadman intends to remain at the school as a professor on the medical school faculty for as long as his health permits.
That means students and colleagues will continue to benefit from his wisdom and counsel as they work to achieve the dream he has for the school.
That dream is well-launched with an impressive new medical school, research labs and classrooms near the sea in Kaka'ako.
But there is more work to be done. Indeed, it was reported this week that the school, still being finished, is already running short of space. And the full integration of the medical school with Hawai'i's emerging biotech or life sciences research industry is still a work in progress.
Clearly, those now running the school, including acting dean Sam Shomaker, are inspired by Cadman's vision. By remaining at the school, Cadman can continue to drive that vision toward completion.
