Hawai'i's Michelle Wie shot a 2-over-par 73 and was two strokes behind Chile's Nicole Perrot after the second round of the U.S. Women's Open at Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Perrot shot a 1-under 70 yesterday and was at 2-under 140. Lorena Ochoa shot a 3-under 68 and was with Wie at 142.

Wie, the 15-year-old amateur, woke up at 4:15 a.m. to be at Cherry Hills in time to complete the rain-delayed first round. She made birdie on No. 17 and wrapped up her first round at 2-under-par 69, sharing the lead with Angela Stanford, Brittany Lang and Karine Icher and two strokes ahead of Annika Sorenstam.

Sorenstam shot a 4-over 75 in the second round and was at 146. Rachel Hetherington (69), Paula Creamer (69) and Stanford (74) were at 143. Morgan Pressel (73) and Karine Icher (75) were at 144.

At the close of her first round, Wie had a good chance to take the lead by herself after hitting a 6-iron to 6 feet on No. 18. She just missed the putt, though, and the first round closed without one player making birdie on the difficult, 459-yard par-4. The hole played at an average of 0.741 strokes above par.

"I was shooting for consistent, under-par rounds and now I have one," said Wie, stopping briefly before heading back out to start her second round. "But there's still a long way to go."

Wie started the second round on the back nine and bogeyed No. 10. Then on the front nine, she bogeyed No. 2 and No. 8 to go to 3 over par. She got her only birdie at the par-4 No. 9.
