POLICE BEAT
Kidnapping and abuse alleged

Advertiser Staff

A 33-year-old Waimalu man has been arrested in connection with the beating of his girlfriend Monday night at the apartment the couple shared.

The girlfriend, 22, told police her boyfriend pummeled her about 7 p.m. Monday night and that she was unable to leave the apartment until the next day when the boyfriend fell asleep.

After the woman left her apartment, she went to a friend's place and called police.

The boyfriend was arrested yesterday on suspicion of kidnapping and abuse of a family member.

Assault reported

Police are looking for a man believed to have attempted to sexually assault a 19-year-old woman as she walked along Atkinson Drive near Ala Moana Center at about 1:15 a.m. yesterday morning.

The woman told police that a car pulled up, a man got out and grabbed her by the throat and tried to sexually assault her.

The woman broke free and the suspect got into the car containing two other men and drove away.

Choking incident alleged

Police arrested a 38-year-old Wahiawa man yesterday in connection with an attack reported by his 25-year-old former girlfriend.

The woman told police she was asleep in her apartment and awoke about 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning to find her estranged boyfriend had broken in and was choking her.

The intruder pulled her from the bed by her hair and smashed her cell phone against a wall as she screamed for help, she told investigators.

A neighbor called police, but the suspect had fled before they arrived. He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
