Basketball shooting coach to hold clinics

Ed Palubinskas, a former shooting coach for professional basketball stars Shaquille O'Neal and Lisa Leslie, will be conducting two shooting clinics this week and next.
The first clinic opens today at Kahuku High School and goes through tomorrow. The second clinic will be July 1 through 3 at a Honolulu location that will be announced.
The cost for the clinic is $100 for one day, $125 for two days and $150 for three days. The clinics are limited to the first 36 individuals, from grades 5 through college. For more information, contact Hiram Akina at 293-2726.
Palubinskas set the world record for most free throws made in an hour with a single ball in April, hitting 867 of 880.
Bowling USBC will hold bronze seminar at Wahiawa
The United States Bowling Congress coaching program will hold a bronze level coaching certification conference Aug. 5 to 7 at Wahiawa.
The seminar will begin Aug. 5 and 6 with registration and classroom activities at the Schofield Chapel, Building 790, McCormack Rd. The bowling portion of the conference will be held Aug. 7 at Schofield Bowling Center, Building 557 Burr St.
The seminar is an intermediate certification level for individuals who wish to further their coaching education. The course will cover the theory and science of teaching, fine-tuning the physical game, lane conditions and adjustments, the mental game, bowling ball components, dynamics of ball motion, videotaping, video analysis and giving a lesson.

The registration fee is $245.
The USBC coaching program offers three levels of certification: Level 1, bronze and silver. The prerequisite for attending the bronze class is successful completion of level 1 course or past Young American Bowling Alliance level 1 certification. Bronze certification must be completed as a prerequisite to participation in the Silver conference.
Football Team USA Hawai'i to play in Japan
Team USA Hawai'i will play in the Japan-USA Bowl on July 14 at the Tokyo Dome.
The football team, which will have former University of Hawai'i and Hawaiian Islanders players, will face a team of players from Japan's X-League.
The Hawai'i team is soliciting donations to help cover its travel costs.
"We need everyone's help," Team USA Hawai'i coach Ron Oyama said. "I want our team to appreciate what talents they are blessed with and to give something back to the youth of Japan."
The Hawai'i team is planning on visiting a children's hospital or school in Kawasaki, Japan, as well as a dinner with the Japanese team before the game.
