Seven University of Hawai'i water polo players were named to the Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team yesterday. Stanford, with eight, was the only MPSF team with more honorees.
Five of the UH players were seniors: Tracy Andersen (4.0 cumulative grade point average in elementary education), Audrey Harrer (3.01, animal science), Danielle Mulford (3.47, religion), Colleen Schiman (3.62, political science and history) and Malia Tarayao (3.30, psychology). Junior Shannon Carroll (3.25, interdisciplinary studies) and sophomore Brittany Dames (3.02, physics) also were named to the team.
To be chosen, student-athletes need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00, must have completed one full season prior to the playing season, and played in at least half the team's contests.
The Rainbow Wahine went 21-11 last season and reached their first NCAA Championship tournament, where they finished fourth.
